Commitment to sustainability

January 2021

Cap de Creus Natural Park joins the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism, increasing the number of parks in the region holding the prestigious ECST seal to five.

Last December, Cap de Creus Natural Park joined the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism (ECST) network, a certification awarded by the EUROPARC Federation that recognises the park’s commitment to managing tourist activity in a way that respects the environment and the needs of the local population and the region’s businesses. Over the next five years a programme of ECST activities will be rolled out, made up of 38 actions designed to achieve sustainable tourism management and development of the sector in the region.

Cap de Creus is the fifth natural park in the province of Girona to receive this award, from a total of eight protected areas, the other four being: Headwaters of the Rivers Ter and Freser Natural Park, Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, Montgrí, Medes Island and Baix Ter Natural Park, and Montseny Natural Park.

In terms of tourism, this new certification demonstrates the region’s commitment to sustainability and adds value to the Costa Brava-Girona Pyrenees destination.
