DO Empordà Wine Route: Forty thousand tourists visit the 23 wineries on the DO Empordà Wine Route in 2015
Girona, 8th of march 2016
The DO Empordà Route Wine, managed by the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board and member of the Spanish Association of Wine Cities (ACEVIN) since 2014, closed 2015 with 39,073 visitors to the twenty-three wineries that belong to the Route and 53,019 visitors to the three museums focused on wine in the region (the Peralada Castle Museum, Coll de Roses Museum and Cork Museum), according to the report ACEVIN. This data translates into a 10.3% year-on-year growth in wine tourism in the Costa Brava.
Coinciding with the busiest season in the Costa Brava, the warmer months of July, August and September (with 4,409, 5,150 and 5,106 wine tourists respectively) drew the most visitors, with each wine tourist spending an average of €18.
These figures underscore how important the wineries on the DO Empordà Wine Route are to the destination as an additional activity for tourists.
