Seven of Girona’s forests now offer ‘woodland immersions’, a pioneering ecotourism health product

Caldes de Malavella, 3th November, 2017

Coinciding with the Year of Sustainability in the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees, the Costa Brava Girona Tourist Board and the Sèlvans Association have launched the first network of Healthy Forests and Therapeutic Itineraries in Catalonia and in the whole of Spain.

This forest network project is inspired by models already existing in countries such as Japan, USA, South Korea and Germany. It aims to contribute to the protection and conservation of our mature, unique woodland and its great natural value, to become a new resource for forest property and to introduce an innovative ecotourist health product, called ‘woodland immersion’, in destinations throughout the Costa Brava and Girona Pyrenees.

Starting this November, the forests of Can Fornaca, in Caldes de Malavella, Palau-sacosta, in Girona, and Torrenteres, in Vidrà, now offer ‘woodland immersions’ to visitors interested in enjoying the health benefits provided by these therapeutic itineraries. In January 2018, the forests of Salvador Grau i Tort, in Les Preses, of Serra d’Heures, in Sant Hilari Sacalm, of Requesens, in La Jonquera, and of Sant Grau, in Tossa de Mar, will join the project with visits to their natural settings. All the forests are accessible, equipped with special facilities and adapted for all types of public.

This ecotourist attraction is aimed at healthy people as well as those at risk or already suffering from chronic illnesses from all over the world. The product ‘woodland immersion’ is available from the website https://selvans.ong/, at a price of between €15 and €50.
